Policies & Requirements
Brazil
** The veterinarian must be approved and accredited by the Government Veterinarian Authority of the pet’s departing country. If the pet is departing Canada, the veterinarian used must be CFIA approved.
** All dates must be written in the ISO (International Standards): dd/mm/yyyy
** All documentation must be completed in blue ink
Requirements
1. Microchip
The pet must be implanted with a microchip that is compatible with international standards (ISO 11784/11785). Microchip Implantation Record must be provided. Microchip Implantation Record must be provided. Microchip must be implanted before the rabies vaccination.
2. Vaccinations
Dogs:
Valid Certification of DHLPP Vaccination within 3 years and 30 days prior importation.
Valid Certification of Rabies Vaccination within 3 years and 30 days prior importation.
Cats:
Valid Certification of FVRCP Vaccination within 3 years and 30 days prior importation.
Valid Certification of Rabies Vaccination within 3 years and 30 days prior importation.
3. Permits & Licenses
Permits must be obtained from the Department of Exports & Imports of the Central Bank Of Brazil, Rio De Janeiro. If the pet is traveling as excess baggage then they don’t require an import permit.
4. Veterinarian Health Certificate
The pet must be accompanied by a Veterinarian Health Certificate, available here, that must be issued 10 days prior to departure. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/export/petcom/petcome.shtml
5. CFIA Endorsement
The following forms must be sent to the local CFIA for their stamp of approval: International Health Certificate, Microchip Implantation Record, and Rabies Certificate.
6. Consular Endorsement
Consular endorsement is required from a country that, when importing pets from Brazil, requires a consular endorsement.
7. Customs
Documentation required when clearing customs:
- Power of Attorney, must be notarized
- A copy of the pet owner’s passport
- Proof of a recent trip to Brazil, such as an airline boarding pass or e-ticket
- Copy of CPF, if available (Tax Payer’s Registration)
8. All of the original documentation must travel with the pet. Have the completed request form and vaccination/health certificate available upon arrival
