Policies & Requirements

** The veterinarian must be approved and accredited by the Government Veterinarian Authority of the pet’s departing country. If the pet is departing Canada, the veterinarian used must be CFIA approved. 

** All dates must be written in the ISO (International Standards): dd/mm/yyyy

** All documentation must be completed in blue ink


1. Microchip

The pet must be implanted with a microchip that is compatible with international standards (ISO 11784/11785). Microchip Implantation Record must be provided. Microchip must be implanted before the rabies vaccination. 

2. Vaccinations


Valid Certification of DHLPP Vaccination within 1 year and 4 weeks prior importation.

Valid Certification of Rabies Vaccination within 1 year and 4 weeks prior importation.


Valid Certification of FVRCP Vaccination within 1 year and 4 weeks prior importation.

Valid Certification of Rabies Vaccination within 1 year and 4 weeks prior importation.

3. Rabies Titer Test/ Fluorescent Antibody Viral Neutralization (FAVN) Blood Test

This blood test must be administered to cats and dogs, two (2) to three (3) weeks after the rabies vaccination, by an approved government facility. The blood test results must be 0.5 IU/ml or above. The test remains valid for 2 years, so it must be conducted within this timeframe to be valid for transport. 

4. Tick & Tapeworm Treatment

24-48 hours prior departure the pet needs to have a final examination and be administered a Tick & Tapeworm treatment by a veterinarian. The date, time and treatments are recorded on the EU Veterinary Certificate. The tapeworm treatment must contain praziquantel. It must be administered again 7 days post transport. 

5. Parasite Treatment

It is recommended the pet be tested and treated against external and internal parasites as close to the transport date as possible. External parasites include mites and fleas. Internal parasites include nematodes and tapeworms. 

6. Permits & Licenses 

Permits must be obtained from The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of the country of import. Copies of all vaccine stickers must be provided to obtain import permit. 

7. Veterinarian Health Certificate 

The pet must be accompanied by a Veterinarian Health Certificate, available here, that must be issued 10 days prior to departure.

8. CFIA Endorsement

The following forms must be sent to the local CFIA for their stamp of approval: Microchip Implantation Record, Rabies Certificate, Veterinarian Health Certificate, and Rabies Titer Test Results.

9. Customs

To clear customs, the following must be provided: a copy of the pet owner’s passport, a copy of the visa (if available), and a note from the pet owner’s employer on company letterhead explaining the relocation

10. Quarantine

The pet is subject to a 21-day quarantine by the quarantine authority at the designated post-entry quarantine premise. An inspection of the pet and all required veterinary certificates is performed. A blood test may be administered to check for rabies. If the antibody is under 0.5 IU/ml, the pet will be revaccinated.
